AdSense Blending vs. Deceiving
Submitted by BigDave on Tue, 2006-12-26 13:34.It always amazes me when people on the AdSense forums just don't get basic differences in behavior. A recent example of this is when Google posted Ad and image placement: a policy clarification over on the AdSense Blog.
For some people, this was seen as a major new rule. If it's a new rule, how come they called it a clarification?
But what really got to me was posts like this one: 'Why is "misleading" user with an image is not appropriate, but "misleading" by blending is, and encouraged?'
I might be getting an actual SEO job
Submitted by BigDave on Sat, 2006-12-23 17:59.I've been avoiding taking on any paying SEO clients ever since I got my first back channel offer on WebmasterWorld in 2003. The thought of constantly telling a client that there is no way to guarantee results on a particular keyword just didn't have much appeal. And I really had to wonder how much worse it would be when the person contacted me through webmasterworld.
This time things are a bit different. One of the other moderators on BGT contacted me about working with the company he recently joined. They've been online since 1998, and their site looks it. Their IT guy has been begging them for years to update things but they never bothered. Now, someone in power has noticed that they aren't ranking for the keywords that they want, so they want it fixed yesterday. Sound familiar?
Finally getting a round tuit
Submitted by BigDave on Sat, 2006-12-23 16:25.That's right, I'm the infamous BigDave from Webmaster World. I finally decided to put my rants, musings and ramblings on my own site, or at least the ones that I consider important.
I'll mostly be writing about SEO, copyright, programming and content creation here, and I'll leave the personal stuff for my other sites.
